I bought this unit and the sold separately front fork stand. So I do not know how the unit works without the front fork stand. That being said, the unit works great, although too pricey, it works for me because I needed to conserve space. When my mountain bike is not attached the unit folds up nicely or just hangs in my garage, unfortunately where it has spent most of it’s time. The unit is stable and sturdy, although don’t lean over to far while on this unit. I would have given it a 4 star rating, but it’s too pricey and I cannot figure out how to get the tension component working (with instructions). When I say tension component I am referring to the mechanism that supposed the tighten the rolling pin to increase friction for the tire. I think some part was missing in the shipped package. Fortunately for me it provides a quite a workout with out that tighteing mechanism. Overall, this unit is good.

The rollers is great because it is different from using a stationary bike. You have to keep up with the balance and that takes away the boredom of regular exercise bike. You could also improve your shifting technique while working on the rollers. Shifting to low versus high gears also let you control the way you would like to expend your energy by employing a higher power versus a higher speed exercise mode. However, I got essentially the same roller at less than half the price at Performance bike shop (online order). In fact, I managed to get two with slight differences, one at somewhere $109 and the other at $129. I gave it two stars simply because the price is way too high for such a simple equipment. Tips for using it include: set up a stool next to you at the right place to catch your fall; 2) if you do fall, don’t panic, don’t fight against the fall; 3) as a starter, set up the roller halfway at the doorway such that your body is sort of between the door frame. This also assists you to start up your bike much easier. My wife and I have lots of fun with it for years.

After the reading other reviews on trainers and rollers, I decided that the rollers would be more enjoyable to use. The rollers arrived assembled and easy to adjust to my bike. I started in a doorway with regular tennis shoes. The first 5 -10 minutes were scary. I thought there was no way I was going to be able to stay on. Then, I started to worry less about falling off and peddled faster and felt much more comfortable. After about 15 minutes I moved the rollers and bike into a hallway and used my cleats and had a great workout. I figure I would stay in the hallway one more time before I graduate to an open room. Build quality seems good and I expect long term reliability.

These rollers are great. One of the chief complaints I have of the regular trainers (as with stationary bikes), is that they tend to get boring after riding for a short while. Since this unit requires more concentration to maintain your balance (which takes a bit of practice and maybe a few sessions), it makes the workout a lot more fun and engaging. Plus, I really like the idea of being able to put my bike to good use during the winter months. This unit also takes up very little space, and doesn’t require any alterations to the bike (I’ve even managed to keep my seat at the same height).

At this point, I haven’t had a chance to use the resistance feature, as the gears on my bike are providing enough of a workout for me. I’d suggest trying out the version without the resistance add-on first, then order the resistance unit separately if you feel you need it (price-wise, it seems they charge nearly the exact same amount for the resistance unit whether you buy it separately, or with the trainer).

The only real drawback thus far is that the trainer is a bit pricey. However, it seems extremely well-built, and durable. Oh, another plus is that it’s made in the USA!

I have used it for a little while since I got this product and have found it great for the money. Very well built, no complains for the moment.

    I would recommend it!
